Sending Audio Files to Motor Sports Radio
Any
audio file you send for our consideration must be sent as a mp3 or mp3 pro
encoded file. Adobe's Audition (f/k/a Cool
Edit Pro),
Sony's Sound Forge and other professional quality audio editing programs (Also Audacity--a
shareware free program with the LAME encoder) will encode the file in the proper format. The motorsportsradionetwork(a)msrpk.com address is the proper and only address that should be used when audio news releases are sent. Get comfortable with the editing program. Pay close attention
to the encode rate, which is (in layman's terms) how much the original audio
gets squeezed into the mp3 format for transmission. An encode rate of 128
kbps will give the user professional, network (CD fidelity) quality audio.
That is very important, because the audio will get processed many times
before it gets broadcast. The better the original, the better it will sound
after processing. That is why we can't accept audio recorded in RealAudio(tm) and other
formats. For best results, record your audio as a mono .wav file (at a sample rate of 44.1) with a professional grade microphone (one with the 3 prong XLR connectors on the bottom). Be
careful when you set a record level. If you can record directly into a laptop,
so much the better. If not, then use a digital audio recorder, mini disc recorder or standard cassette recorder with a microphone input. A good place for information on this is minidisco.com). Another source for information and advice on equipment is
Broadcast Supply West. Their toll free number is 800-426-8434 (John Lynch
is our contact there). PK Communications Co. fabricates adapters for XLR
microphone connectors to 1/8" stereo mini connectors used on laptops, digital audio recorders, mini disc
and other recording equipment. They are used by MRN, PRN and XM Satellite Radio and guaranteed for life. adapters Please try to keep your submissions under 1 minute in length. Even with mp3 encoding, the audio files are larger than normal, and it takes a lot of time to download them. Also, when you do the interview, please remind the subject that brevity is the soul of wit. Brief pertinent comments that you might record for your print releases will get more favorable consideration. Advances on upcoming events are also similarly welcome. Thanks for thinking of us when you send audio releases. They work a lot better than images, which don't get used on a radio program. Back to the media/pr page
